ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ’s School of Theatre and Dance is closing its 2024-2025 season with "Men On Boats," running April 18 through 27 in Wright-Curtis Theatre, located in the Center for Performing Arts on the Kent campus
Ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon. "Men On Boats" is the true(ish) story of John Wesley Powell’s 1869 expedition down the Grand and Colorado Rivers with nine amateur explorers. This comedic feminist retelling of the explorers’ death-defying adventure raises urgent questions about whose histories are told, whose perspectives are left out and how historical narratives shape contemporary understandings of belonging.
"Men On Boats" was written by Jaclyn Backhaus. Caitlin A. Kane is the director with assistant directors, Lauren Hankins and Sawyer Swick, along with production stage manager, Eva Clements. Costume design is by Amy Ballew, Madeline K. Barber created the lighting design and Katie Rowland creates the sound design while the scenic design is by Kathalina Plummer Thorpe. Wes Carney acts as technical director, the properties manager is Lauren Wyatt, Karl Erdmann is the production manager and Tony Hardin is the director of the School of Theatre and Dance and producer.
