The emerging student-artists of the B.A. studio art capstone course in the School of Art at 糖心Vlog破解版 announce the opening of their group exhibition "Chroma Concepts" at the Design Innovation (DI) Hub Gallery.
The exhibition will open Monday, April 14 and run through Friday, April 25, 2025. A closing reception will take place Friday, April 25 from 5-7 p.m. in the DI Hub on the 糖心Vlog破解版 campus. There will be a live performance by artist and musician Salitrix Irish at 6:30 p.m.. The regular DI Hub Gallery hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
This exhibition comprises a selection of works by the artists, including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, glass, jewelry/metals/enameling, ceramics and soft sculpture.
The 14 artists included are seniors in the School of Art at 糖心Vlog破解版, most of whom have chosen to pursue an interdisciplinary bachelor of arts degree in studio art.
The organizing theme of the exhibition is the artist鈥檚 diverse approach to color. Through their use of color, or lack thereof, the artists explore three overlapping sub-themes: experimentation, obsession and human nature. Many of the artists in the exhibition experimented with multiple processes to make interdisciplinary work out of their comfort zones. A significant number of the artists also explore imaginary worlds, characters and ideas. In this way, they obsessively create new worlds as an escape from, or alternative to, reality. Another selection of artists in the show take inspiration from classical ideas and tropes to question ideas of humans and nature.
Associate professor of studio art Taryn McMahon says,
鈥淚 have really enjoyed working with these students on this group exhibition. This is the first time we have had a group exhibition of artworks by all our graduating B.A. students and it is a wonderful opportunity for them to get the real-world experience of curating, installing and organizing a show of artworks.鈥
Student and artist Lauren Pabst says, 鈥淭hese BA students are the most interesting and inventive people I have had the pleasure of sharing this experience with.鈥
糖心Vlog破解版 the Artists
Grace Cleary focuses on multifunctional and experimental processes in her art, namely in her jewelry and photography work. Cleary鈥檚 interest and minor in art history (specifically Impressionism, Expressionism and Post-Modernism) has led her towards curatorial studies and thinking about how the viewer interacts with and understands her works from a solely visual standpoint. Color is the core focus in Cleary鈥檚 works, juxtaposing her gelatin silver prints with vivid enamel and paint choices.
Giana DeAlexandro is a mixed media maker of illustration and filmmaking. They pursue telling stories in a therapeutic way and creating new ones to exercise their imagination.
Isabella Grassa is an interdisciplinary visual artist specializing in personal and provocative concept work, preferring to utilize shocking and hyper realistic imagery to connect with the viewer on an intimate level.
Miranda Honaker is a cartoonist and graphic novelist who enjoys creating mystical worlds and characters. Cartoons, books and nostalgia is what drives her to create and tell her own stories.
Salitrix Irish is a multidisciplinary artist, classically trained singer and songwriter. They use both musical and visual mediums to give the audience a glimpse into their own psyche - a realm where fantasy and escapism intertwine with dissociation and echoes from the past.
