ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ to Honor Veterans on Nov. 9

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.

The outdoor program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs, remarks from ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ President Beverly Warren and guest speakers. Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Mark Gainer, who currently serves as president of the ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Veterans Club, will be the guest speaker.

All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation is extended to ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military.

A reception in the Kent Student Center Kiva lobby will follow the brief program. In the event of inclement weather, the rain location will be the Kent Student Center Kiva.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation Awards Additional $300,000 to ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ’s Spirit of Motherhood Program to Combat Infant Mortality and Prevent Preterm Births

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ’s Angela Neal-Barnett has been working diligently to build up the Spirit of Motherhood program with the goal of reducing trauma and stress symptoms experienced by its pregnant Black mother participants. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation recently awarded the program another $300,000 to continue its work over the next three years.

Statewide Tornado Drill to Be Conducted Wednesday, March 20

Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 20, at 9:50 a.m. All ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ campuses will be participating in this test. We will broadcast a recorded tornado education message through university speaker systems and IP (Internet Protocol) phones throughout buildings on all ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ campuses.

This is only a test of the mass notification systems, and no shelter-in-place activities are required.

The Kent Campus tests the tornado sirens on the first Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m. and on the third Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ, Notre Dame College Forge New Pathways for Student Success

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ has pledged to offer a host of benefits to Notre Dame College students who have accrued 60 or more credit hours. For those with fewer than 60 credits, the invitation is extended to apply to ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ as transfer students, with a commitment to facilitating a smooth transition.

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Board of Trustees Establishes Four New Majors

The ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Board of Trustees approved the establishment of four new majors during its regular quarterly meeting held March 6 on the Kent Campus. The Board also approved recommended actions for the East Main Street Project in Kent and a naming action.

Fear Factor: ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Nursing Professor’s Research Explores Nursing Student Fears Through AI-Generated Images

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ’s College of Nursing Assistant Professor Janet Reed, Ph.D., wanted to know how nursing students’ biggest fears about going into the nursing profession would translate into AI-generated art. The resulting images that portray a physical representation of the students’ worries about their future profession are prompting discussions.

Safety Advisory for Kent Campus – Kent Hall

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Police investigated an unverified threat at Kent Hall that was received this morning. University police worked with federal and other law enforcement partners to assess the threat. Based on the investigation, police have determined that the threat is not credible. The threat is similar to those received recently at other schools and institutions. All classes and activities on campus will continue as scheduled.

ADVISORY: ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Board of Trustees Meeting, March 6

The ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Board of Trustees will hold its next regular business meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, in the University Library, Second Floor, Urban Conference Room, on the Kent Campus to consider the recommendations of the standing committees, proposed personnel actions and new business. Trustees will retire into executive session at 8:30 a.m.

Stolen Car Chase Ends Along Edge of Kent Campus

A police chase of a stolen car ended in a multicar accident just before 3 p.m. Sunday on East Main Street along the northern edge of the Kent Campus. Portage County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended the teen driver near White Hall as he tried to flee the scene on foot. Medical units were called to treat those who were involved in the crash.

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted in the aftermath of the incident.

Any additional questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.
