School of Media and Journalism Welcomes Two New Faculty Members
As a new academic year begins, the School of Media and Journalism is pleased to welcome two new faculty members. Meet Peter Bobkowski and Andrea Lorenz! Bobkowski joins the faculty as the new Knight Chair in Scholastic Journalism and Professor. He is an expert on scholastic journalism and most recently was professor at the University of Kansas. He will be teaching Media, Power and Culture during Fall 2023. Lorenz joins as Assistant Professor. She researches interactions between media and democracy.

ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ graduate and award-winning photojournalist Matthew Thayer has spent the past 43 years in Hawaii, working as a photojournalist for The Maui News newspaper. When Thayer was sent out to cover horse evacuations from the upcountry fires on Maui on Aug. 8, he never expected he would end up covering one of the worst natural disasters in Hawaii’s history.

President Todd Diacon welcomed the Class of 2027 during a colorful and festive Convocation celebration, encouraging students to embrace the spirit of the university’s core values. A relatively new tradition on the Kent Campus, Convocation not only serves to get students excited for the start of their academic careers at ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ but also to introduce the students to the deans and faculty for each of the university’s colleges.

Three ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Professors have been awarded a $101,929 grant to develop a machine learning tool to evaluate and support children's understanding of fraction arithmetic.
